Justin and I just spent a week away. Destination Date. It's a practice we started years ago when the kids were smaller. It hasn't always looked the same or been as long. But, we learned early on in our marriage that we needed time together. Alone. No kids.

This does several things for us. Life slows down. We have no other responsibilities other than to each other. No one is calling us “Mom” or “Dad." We eat, sleep, travel, and explore on our own schedule. We usually have very loose plans as the ultimate goal is to be with each other. On this trip I was able to soak up some alone time in the big city while he did a little work on the side. A HUGE bonus!

We reconnect. Every single time we go home more grateful for each other and remembering why we chose each other in this crazy game of life.

Included in this “marriage care” is “self care.” Maybe life isn't affording you a week away with your spouse any time soon. I am going to challenge you to invest in yourself and make the time to self care. Your investments in yourself spill over into your marriage. I know this for fact because I've been practicing intentional self care for a long time.

Are you a self care rookie or pro? I'd love to know what you do to take care of yourself. Tell me here. Need help deciding what type of self care will recharge you? Check out some of these ideas.

Home Spa. Soak up and seep out the ick when you add a large scoop of baking soda and Empson salts to your bath. Make it extra special with some essential oils to help you relax. Use this recipe for a successful home spa!

Get Outside. Take your shoes off and put your feet in the grass for 15 minutes or take a walk. Spend some time just soaking up the weather or get busy in the flower beds. I'd love to know your favorite outdoor activity for this time of year. Send me a note.
